Full disclosure, this post wasn’t written with AI, because that would defeat the purpose of the post.
Unless you are currently living under a rock, then I am sure you must have heard this phrase “AI will take your job soon”. Which has sent many people into depression, or out of fear, has already lost their jobs. But funny enough, while many others are living in fear of losing their jobs, a lot of people are getting high paying jobs and advancing their careers. This post will try to guide you as much as possible to strategies that can help you get a high paying job in this AI age.
Before we proceed, let’s acknowledge first that AI has shaped almost every workplace now. For the lucky ones who haven’t lost their jobs yet, it has made their job easier (copy and pasting from GPT). For the unlucky one, AI has reduced a team of previously 200 to just 3 people.
While this post is solely focused on how to get a job, I will also share some understanding on how to keep your job, if you already have one.
If you aren’t interested in getting a job, then you can try out some of our hustles to make money.
Let’s dive into details immediately on how to get that job in this AI age.
Convince the Hiring Robot
Well, if you aren’t aware, the new hiring assistant is also an A.I. that has been programmed to kick you out, even before your resume is seen by a human. Gone are the good old days when a human will look at your resume, nod their heads sideways and decide to give you a chance to prove yourself at the interview stage.
Nowadays, you don’t even get the chance to be passed to the human, who might even consider you. But all hope is not lost, as experts like us have figured out a way to go around this.
The only solution is to get the same robot to review, develop, and write your CV.
And No, I am not talking about asking ChatGPT to write you a new CV.
I am telling you to create a brand new CV for every specific job you are applying to.
Every job vacancy you see online is laced with keywords that should reflect on your CV. These keywords are what the ATSoftware scans for and decides if you are qualified or not.
I use a tool called atscvoptimizer.com.
Here’s how you do it.
- You copy the job description of any job vacancy
- Paste it into the website
- Click on “Analyse CV”. It will analyse your CV and let you know if you are qualified. If you aren’t qualified, then do the next step.
- Click on “Align CV”. Then it will generate a customized and qualified CV for that job vacancy.
- Then you download the CV as a PDF.
As simple as this sounds, it works because I used it to land a job of almost £45,000 annually. So I decided to share this secret.
Target Non-Technical Jobs Abroad.
If you are in a country like Nigeria, there is a secret you don’t know, there are many job vacancies that don’t require technical skills.
A simple example is the recent Prison Officer jobs in the UK. Many Nigerians were hired and sponsored to come to the UK. The same happens in many other countries. You can search for Civil Service Jobs in the UK, and see which ones recruit from “Commonwealth Countries”, then you have a chance to be hired and sponsored from Nigeria.
That way, you don’t have to rely on highly technical jobs that would require high sifting of CVs just to be called for an interview. Most jobs like the prison officer job in the UK don’t even require your CV, as they really need officers. In fact, the starting salary is about £32,000, which is higher than most white collar jobs.
This is a secret, and you should do whatever you want with it, and Good luck to you.
Cold Messaging Companies You Want to Work For
Cold messaging can be a powerful strategy to break into companies you’re targeting, especially in the AI age where personal connections still matter despite technological advancements in hiring. Here’s how to approach this effectively
Cold outreach allows you to bypass traditional application processes and get your profile directly in front of decision-makers. In the AI age, where algorithms often filter resumes, a personal connection can give you a significant advantage.
Who to Contact
Research and identify:
- Hiring managers in your target department
- Team leads who would be your potential boss
- Current employees in similar roles
- Company recruiters specializing in your field
LinkedIn is your best resource, but also consider industry events, professional forums, and company websites.
Crafting Effective Cold Messages
- Personalize heavily: Reference specific company projects, recent news, or shared connections
- Demonstrate value: Briefly showcase how your skills align with their needs
- Be concise: Respect their time with a message that takes under 30 seconds to read
- Include a clear call-to-action: Request a brief call, coffee meeting, or specific information
Here’s an example with Supabase Company
Look for anything like this on company websites, and pitch your skills to them.
Example Template
Hi [Name],
I noticed [specific company achievement/news] and was impressed by [specific detail]. I’ve been working in [relevant field] for [time period], specializing in [skill relevant to their needs].
I’m particularly interested in opportunities with [company] because [authentic reason]. Would you be open to a 15-minute call to discuss how my experience in [specific accomplishment] might benefit your team?
Thanks for considering,
[Your name]
Follow-Up Strategy
- Wait 5-7 business days before following up
- Reference your previous message
- Add a new piece of value (article, insight, etc.)
- Limit follow-ups to 2-3 attempts
Tracking and Optimizing
Create a spreadsheet to track your outreach efforts, responses, and conversations. Analyze which approaches yield better results and refine your strategy accordingly.
Remember that cold messaging is a numbers game—expect a 10-15% response rate even with excellent messages. Focus on quality over quantity, and be prepared to demonstrate your value when opportunities arise.
