I didn’t want to be a wicked father who would outrightly say no to my son’s request. So I gave him a task to accomplish – which he did and claimed his Nike shoe a few days later.
I sat down and pondered the strategy he used to get that money out of my pocket. I started implementing it step by step, and the result has been fantastic. I will show you why you need to convince someone to give you money without sweating so hard.

Basically, people often feel like they should return favors. For instance, I have an email list for my website where I promote products from other influencers. These influencers see the sales I generate for them. So, later, if I need a favor, they’re more inclined to give me money. Let’s make this simpler. Imagine you’re a car salesman. If you give a small favor, like offering a free bottle of water to a customer, it sets up this feeling in them to do something in return. This makes it easier to convince someone to give you money.
There’s also this super simple trick to convince someone to give you money, and it’s so easy you might be surprised you haven’t used it. It’s called the nod trick. When you’re talking to someone, just nod your head up and down. This gets the other person to start nodding too. And something about nodding their head up and down makes them more likely to agree with what you’re saying.

Back in 1999, there was this interesting study about how priming can affect what people buy. They played German and French music in a place where they sold wine for two weeks. What they found was pretty cool: on days when French music was played, more French wine was sold, and on days with German music, more German wine was sold.
The music was secretly influencing the customers’ choices. The best part? When these customers were asked about it in a survey, they had no idea that the music was affecting their wine choices. Priming is all about using one thing to subtly influence someone’s reaction to something else. A simple way to use this trick in everyday life is by changing the environment around you. For example, if you need to ask your parents for a loan, pick a place that makes them feel calm and open-minded. This setting will subtly make them more likely to say yes to your request.
Exert Some Authority
Finally, here is a mind trick you can use to persuade anyone—confidence. This method is often seen in sales. People naturally want to follow those they trust. When you are trying to convince someone, act with authority, even if you’re not. For instance, if you’re asking your parents for money for a car you’ve been dreaming of, you should talk with confidence and act like you’re an expert on cars and their prices.
Your parents might not know much about the car or if it’s a good deal, but if you sound like you know it all, it’ll be easier to get them to lend you the money.
